Ring studies

One flower. Two ways around the finger.

An open ring leaves a gap between its ends; a double-band design places two band lines alongside one another. Compare the gap, overall band width and height above the finger as well as the flower. An open silhouette does not, by itself, tell you whether a finished ring is adjustable.

Worth keeping in mindBefore choosing a real ring, ask for its size, total band width, flower dimensions and side profile. For an open design, ask separately whether adjustment is permitted and who should perform it.

Two outlines for the same flower

In Statira’s open flower ring study, the sculptural flower and a smooth teardrop face one another. The space between them becomes part of the composition. Your eye follows the band, pauses at the gap, then returns to the folds.

The double-band study takes another route. Two slender curves sit beneath one flower. The narrow space between those curves echoes the flower’s open center. These are observations about our illustrations, rather than claims about the construction of finished pieces.

You can start by asking which outline you prefer: a visible interruption, or two parallel lines. Neither is inherently more delicate. The dimensions and proportions of an actual piece determine how much presence it has.

Compare the whole band, not one line

For a double-band design, the width of each individual line is only part of the picture. Ask for the total width across both bands and their spacing. That describes how much of the finger the design occupies from one edge to the other.

For an open ring, look at where the opening sits relative to the flower. A front photograph may hide the underside of the band or make the gap look smaller. Compare front, side and underside views of the actual piece when they are available.

Details to compare before selecting a ring
DetailWhat to ask
BandWhat is the total width, including any space between parallel lines?
FlowerWhat are its width and height when viewed from above?
ProfileHow high does the flower sit above the finger?
OpeningWhat sizes are offered, and is adjustment explicitly permitted?

An opening is not a sizing instruction

Do not infer adjustability from a gap in a photograph. A maker needs to confirm whether a particular ring can be adjusted, the permitted range and how that adjustment should be made. Until then, treat an open ring as a design that still needs a stated size.

A ring you already wear on the intended finger is a useful reference. Its inside diameter can help you compare a maker’s sizing guide, but it cannot establish how a different band shape will feel. Ask for guidance on the specific design and try it on where possible.

The opening in our Statira study describes its silhouette only. No size range, adjustment method or finished construction has been confirmed.

Let the side view have a say

Our flower is built visually around six folded petals and an open center. From above, its outline leads. From the side, the folds and the space beneath the flower become easier to see. A ring is viewed from both directions as a hand moves.

For an actual piece, ask for a side photograph and the height of the setting. Use those details alongside your preferred silhouette, rather than judging everything from one close-up. The flower study explains how the motif changes as it turns.

A few useful distinctions

Is a double-band ring the same as two stacked rings?

Not necessarily. A double-band silhouette can be one piece with two visible band lines. A stack consists of separate rings worn together. Check the actual product description; our double-band illustration does not establish its final construction.

Can I choose my ring size from a design study?

No. An illustration provides neither a reliable scale nor a fit test. Use the sizing guidance for the finished piece, with its confirmed measurements.

Are Statira’s ring studies available to buy?

They are not currently available to purchase. The collection section presents illustrative concepts. Prices, materials, measurements, sizes and product-specific policies need to be confirmed before shopping opens.
